Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse on Film

February 14, 2019Photography

A few weeks ago, like many, I captured the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse, but I did it on film with my 135mm fixed lens. A light leak slipped in which I think was just wonderful. Considering I shot on a tripod without any stabilization or cable release, I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

Shot on Minolta X-700 with 135mm rokkor lens, on Lomography 800. Scanned by Old School Photo Lab.

My first photography show

October 30, 2018Photography

Over the weekend I participated in my first photography show ever. This show came together thanks to my friend Josh who wanted to put together a benefit show for breast cancer research around film photography.

I’ve never done anything like this and have never considered myself an “artist.” Suffice to say this pushed me way out of my comfort zone. In particular, trying to curate all my random 35mm film photos into something cohesive was way harder than I expected.

The show ended up being a great success and I had a wonderful time. I wound up putting together a set of black and white photos that showed a mood and style that made me fall in love with in film in the first place. A little surreal, a little dream-like. I joked with a few people that if they left feeling a little unnerved about my photos or with a newfound sense of longing, then I was successful.

Here are some of the photos I shared (and some I wanted to but didn’t make the cut). Most shot on a Minolta SRT100 and mainly Ilford HP5+. A few were home developed in D-76.

Copenhagen 2017

August 28, 2017Travel

I visited Copenhagen at the end of August 2017 to speak with Ionic team member Adam Bradley at Google’s Polymer Summit about our new open source project Stencil. It was my first time in Denmark and I was excited to see this city that everyone raved about.

Copenhagen was lovely, and we spent a ton of time biking around town. The Donkey Republic app made grabbing a bike super easy. My favorite memory was night biking after hosting an impromptu Ionic Copenhagen meetup at a local bar.

I brought some expired Kodak Vision3 250D on this trip, and I regret that as I was pretty disappointed in those shots (very grainy, red shadows, a bit of haze). Good thing for me to remember for next time.

Photos shot on my Minolta X-700 on a mixture of expired Kodak Vision3 250D, Lomography 800, Kodak ColorPlus 200, and Portra 400. Developed and scanned by Little Film Lab
